Nine Pearls: What to see and do in Piedmont’s wine region

Here are examples of things to do and experience on your trip. If you choose Go Slow Travel the addresses are pre-programmed in your GPS. Get in your car, turn on the GPS and drive carefully!

Restaurants

Piedmontese cuisine is a genuine regional cuisine with specialites such as truffels, risotto, fresh cheeses and of course pasta. Piedmont was set firmly on the world’s culinary radar by Slow Food. It is a movement among both food professionals and amators that has placed concepts such as food quality, local food traditions and local products in focus.

Trattoria with a view. An affordable, charming restaurant just outside of Alba, with a view over the alpine landscape and more.

The first Slow Food restaurant! In a charming little village with a beautiful view, you’ll find the little Osteria. This is quite popular, so make reservations or ask us to make them for you. This is an authentic local restaurant with very good food. Osteria was featured in the Swedish TV program Solens Mat.

This pizzeria is located in a quaint little village. They make their own cheese and have a lovely delicatessen. Allow yourself time to enjoy a long, leisurely lunch outside or upstairs. The food here is made with love and should be accompanied by a good wine from their wine list. All of the impressions (including the bill) make this pearl a real find!

Wine

The wine district in Piedmont offers magnificant wines. Don’t miss the wine made from the Arneis grape in the Roero area. The wines from Barolo are world famous and the area’s other producers are striving to equal this level. In Asti you’ll find the well-known spumante, a sweet sparkling wine loved around the world.

A nobel vineyard, originally a gift from a Savoy king to his daughter, it is now owned by one of the Slow Food organizations largest patrons. Today it is a fully modern establishment with an elegant wine shop, wine tasting facility and restaurant. The wines comprise all of the main grape sorts and locations in Piedmont, with some of the wines being amongst the most prestigious in Piedmont.

In a litte residential area surrounded by hilly vineyards you’ll find this small, exciting wine producer. But don’t let this frighten you off! Gianluca will enjoy telling you of their prestigious and good wines. You may also taste many of their moderately-priced wines. This is a good location to buy wine and have it sent home to you!

Wine tasting in a charming environment. Here you’ll find good wine tasting combined with a fantastic restaurant and hotel. If you have a chance, take the time to look around the area. For an extra special evening, we recommend that you reserve a table at the restaurant. The vineyard and this lovely village are a fantastic combination.

Points of view

Piedmont’s wine regions never cease to charm. From authentic, undiscovered villages and farms in the Monferrato area to the pulsing Turin, the newly awakened Baroque city, there are so many impressions to experience. Your GPS will deliver you to the specially selected gems of the area that we deem worth an extra trip.

Villages such as Monforte and Serralunga are a must, especially in clear weather. The Alps provide a beautiful backdrop for the villages.

Turin is a full chapter in itself. It is a city that offers you all you can wish for in things to see and experience. You can visit EATALY, the world’s largest food and wine center, founded on Slow Food’s principles. Directly across from this you can shop at FIAT’s old factory that is now the gigantic gallery, Lingotto.

Leisurely wandering in Alba, the capital of the Barbaresco och Barolo regions, following a visit to Slow Food organization’s Mecca in Bra, can be recommended. You might just find your own special wine to enjoy with truffles in one of the many wine shops.
